Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  • I encourage you to review my services page, and the next question down, which also explains what happens before and during a saddle fitting appointment! Once you’ve ready, please submit my scheduling form so I can add you to my calendar of appointments.

Please note - your appointment is confirmed when payment is received.

  • Horses should be in, groomed, and ready to be evaluated without tack on. Any tack that needs to be evaluated should be clean and ready to use. A flat area is best to assess static fit.

    • I start with looking at the horse’s body and checking for any soreness. We look at their shape, withers, width, length of back, and muscle structure in order to determine proper tree shape and discuss panel design. I often do tracings to help owners see the horse in 2 dimensions and to keep a record of the horse’s shape and changes.

    • After this, we look at saddles on the horse and you will need to ride. The under-saddle portion of the evaluation should be walk/trot at minimum unless the saddle is inappropriate. I never allow a horse to go in an ill-fitting saddle.

    • During and after the under-saddle portion, we will discuss proper rider fit and preferences including seat size and depth, flap shape and length, leather types and more.

We then untack and make decisions based on how the horse goes and what the rider likes.

If you have extenuating circumstances, or an unstarted horse, please email me and we will problem solve.

  • Fittings are $150 within a 50 mile radius of Charlottesville, VA. I often travel outside of that radius when an appointment is coupled with other barns in the area OR when an appointment is coupled with other appointments at the same barn/location.

I regularly travel up and down the 81 corridor from Blacksburg to Harrisonburg, on 64 between Staunton to Richmond area, make trips on 29 from Warrenton down to Lynchburg, and am in my “home” territory of Charlottesville, Crozet, Keswick and Orange in between. I make a trip to the VA Beach area twice a year and can mostly be convinced to go anywhere as needed if there are enough horses to be seen.

Please note - your appointment is confirmed when payment is received.

  • Yes! I am an Independent Fitter and work and have experience with English, Western, Endurance, and Working Equitation disciplines.

  • As a general rule, I do not believe remote fittings are accurate and choose not to provide them unless absolutely necessary. They require extensive time, effort, photos, and videos and pricing will reflects that. I would rather work with you to find a local fitter in your area that can come to and work with you in-person.

  • If we need to reschedule due to lameness, weather, illness, or other extenuating circumstances, you will get priority scheduling for my next trip to your area. Please contact me as soon as you can. If I need to reschedule for any reason, I will contact you ASAP and give you priority scheduling. Your flexibility and understanding is appreciated as I want to be able to devote time and focus to your horse during your appointment.
